We are awaiting spring in North Texas, and from the looks of our not-so-cold winter, the wait will not be long at all. Soon, warmer temperatures will beckon us outside, and our lake-front community invites you to enjoy the great outdoors. A visit to Rockwall County for any one of these outings is sure to get your heart moving and put a smile on your face.

 

Like to bike? Rockwall County has twenty miles of dedicated bike paths including Squabble Creek Bike Trail (2201 North Lakeshore Drive) which offers six miles of loops on a single track. Bikers ride under a canopy of trees and over hard-packed terrain. If you are looking for additional miles, be sure to connect with the master planned concrete bike path at the trail-head.

Harry Myers Park Disc Golf (815 E Washington St., Rockwall, TX 75087) is just one of the twenty unique parks Rockwall County has to offer. The eighteen-hole course is a truly fun activity for just about anyone and is located in a wooded, well-maintained park. This free, 7,460 foot course is designed with both novices and experts in mind. Golfers will notice that the elevation changes keep the game interesting and the scenery can’t be beat. Not up for a game of disc golf? While at Harry Myers Park, check out the spray ground, skate park, swimming pool, or walking trails that are also located on this 60 acres of recreation area.

The Concert by the Lake Series at the Harbor is a visitors must during the summer season. The live, outdoor concerts are set upon the backdrop of Lake Ray Hubbard and presented by the Rockwall Parks and Recreation Department. The concerts always have a stellar line-up of live, tribute and variety bands. The concerts take place at the Harbor Amphitheater on beautiful Lake Ray Hubbard (2074 Summer Lee Drive, Rockwall, TX 75032). Concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. and guests are invited to bring blankets and chairs to enjoy the live-music experience.

The Downtown Rockwall  San Jacinto Plaza Music Series is a sizzling way to spend your summer nights outdoors. Nestled in historic downtown Rockwall, the San Jacinto Plaza comes to life with live music Friday and Saturday evenings, May through September. Guests can listen to the good vibes from 6:30-9:00 PM. There are cafe style tables and chairs in addition to the built in wall seats that line the plaza. Bonus- guests can bring food, beverages, and their own chairs, or come early and enjoy one of Rockwall’s outstanding restaurants on the square.

Golf is a sure-fire way to get some exercise, enjoy the outdoors, and appreciate the landscape of Rockwall County. Buffalo Creek Golf Club (624 Country Club Drive, Rockwall, TX 75032 )  is a par 71 course and is consistently rated as a top course in  both the Dallas area and in Texas. This course, which is annually ranked four stars by Golf Digest, is great for any ability level.  Rockwall Golf Club (2600 Champions Drive, Rockwall, TX 75087) offers 7,281 yards of rolling fairways. In addition to the awesome view of Lake Ray Hubbard, golfers in every stage will find something for their level of experience. So, go ahead, practice that swing, get outside, and play golf.

The Dog Park at Harry Meyers is one of Rockwall County’s newest treasures. Bring your canine friend and let them enjoy this four-legged paradise. The park has two fenced in, off-leash play areas, and is located at 815 East Washington, Rockwall, Texas 75087. The park is divided into two sections; one for smaller dogs and one for larger dogs.  In addition, there is a common drinking area for the pets. The Dog park is open daily from 5:00 am to 10:00 pm.

The Historic Downtown Rockwall Farmers Market is a hot-spot for both locals and visitors. It was established in 2008 by the Friends of Downtown Rockwall, and now boasts over thirty vendors with a variety of fresh and local items. The mission of the Downtown Rockwall Farmers Market is to, “establish a link between farmers and consumers. To offer quality agricultural goods from local growers and ranchers, as well as provide gourmet artisan foods. It is where the agrarian community can connect with the urban community in a safe, fun environment.” The market is a perfect spot for fun and it is a family-friendly environment. To add to the already outstanding goodness of the market, the Market also provides live-music and is dog and pet friendly. The market season runs Saturday mornings from 8:00 am until noon, May through September.
