Entertainment is at our fingertips in so many ways in 2018, but there is something special, grand, and authentic about watching live drama unfold onstage before your eyes. Drama and the theater are essential parts of our human narrative and Rockwall County is home to a phenomenal and visit-worthy playhouse.
From classic productions like Annie and A Christmas Carol, to vibrant showcases like Hairspray, The Rockwall Community Playhouse (RCP), has gifted our community with the arts since its founding. What began in 1995 has now developed into a fully thriving theater, in which seven productions are offered each season. The playouse further serves the community by providing theater support, assistance, and educational programs to the local schools. The RCP also offers new opportunities for instruction and experience in theater arts as well as free programs and entertainment for service organizations.
If the mission of The Rockwall Community Playhouse is to promote and produce live theater for educational, charitable and entertainment purposes, the heart of it is the people. Serving the people through entertainment as well as education is the aim of the RCP. The RCP is open to all ages and all people. The Star Players Program is available for young adults sixteen and older with Down syndrome and autism. The Players meet and produce a full production musical while learning theater basics. In addition, multiple workshops are offered over the course of the year for all ages.
Rockwall’s Got Talent is the RCP’s fundraising event each year that allows performers from across the metroplex to audition in hopes of winning a cash prize. Funds raised from the event go towards their capital campaign and the building of new facilities.
In case you need another reason to visit Rockwall, we have your drama covered. You can catch She Loves Me, Anne of Green Gables, Lend me A Tenor, and We Will Rock You in the upcoming 2018 season. Check out http://www.rockwallcommunityplayhouse.org/ for tickets and showtimes.
